Dear Mr. Perkins:
This is in response to your letter of March 7,1979, in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, certain records compiled by Dr. Stephen H. Hanauer, and documents pertaining to uranium processing and radioactive waste disposal.
You also asked to be placed on a mailing list for NRC Regulatory Guides.
Enclosed, as listed in Appendix A, are various documents responding to the numbered requests in your letter.
Items 1, 2, and 3 of Appendix A are the first three of your " smaller requests."
Items 4 through 10 pertain to your request No. 4.
With respect to your request No. 5, the NRC does not have a " guide" for obtaining documents pertaining to the WIPP (Waste Isolation Pilot Plant) radioactive waste depository near Carlsbad, New Mexico.
We have established a docket file for this facility.
Copies of this file have been placed in the NRC Public Document Room, located at 1717 H Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20555, and at the University of New Mexico Library in Albuquerque, and the New Mexico State Library in Santa Fe.
The WIPP facility is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.
Should you wish to communicate with that agency, you may address your request to the WIPP Project Office, Department of Energy, Washington, D.C. 20545.

II With respect to your request for Dr. Hanauer's information concerning accidents at nuclear power plants, these documents are known as the " nugget file," and a description of the file is enclosed. The " nugget file" is available for public inspection and copying at the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
As specified in 10 CFR 9.14(a) of the Commission's regulations, the charge for copying is eight cents ($0.08) per page.
I under-stand that the " nugget file" comprises approximately 1,800 pages.
Should you desire a copy, you may write to the PDR, and you will be billed directly by the reproduction contractor, Potomac Research, Inc.
