MEMORANDUM FOR:
V.
FROM:
H. Denton, Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
SUBJECT:
IE BULLETIN 79-01, ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATION OF CLASS IE EQUIPMENT At a briefing on July 7,1979, the NRC staff provided the Commission with a status report of its review to date of the licensees' responses to IE Bulletin 79-01. The staff also outlined its overall long tenn program for completing the review and identified key milestones.
Two of the important early milestones identified were: (1) IE's completion of the initial screening reviews by the end of July 1979; and (2) 00R's completion of the guidelines and acceptance criteria for the final reviews by the end of September 1979. The results of both of these early activities are important to NRR's planning for future staffing requirements. The preparation of the guidelines and acceptance criteria is still ongoing and we expect to complete at least a draft for comment by the end of September. We would appreciate it if you would provide us a summary of the results of your screening reviews as soon as possible.
