Dear Mr. Grier:

Subject:

Response to I&E Bulletin No. 79-14 As you are aware, Maine Yankee Atomic Power Station conducted a review of seismically designed safety-related piping as part of our respose to the March 13, 1979 Show Cause Order from the NRC.

Included in that review was an inspection of randomly selected pipi:.g systems for compliance with as-built geometries. This effort was discussed in the ERC Safety Evaluation Report which authorized plant restart. Maine Yankee believes that this effort, which was conducted within the last twelve months, satisfies the intent of Reference (b). Thus, no further inspections of piping system installations will be conducted with respect to the subject I&E Bulletin.

As part of the rescinding of the Order to Show Cause shutdown order Maine Yankee committed to conduct a complete re-analysis of seismically designed safety related piping. We are currently f;inalizing our program for that effort, and wil. be submitting the program for information in the near future. We intend to include additional system verifications as part of that program.

We trust this letter satisfactorily addresses the subject I&E Bulletin.

Should you require any additional information, please feel free to contact us.

Very truly yours, MAINE YANKEE ATOMIC POWER COMPANY Robert H. Groce Licensing Engineer JRH/smw 7 90~827o5/1
