Enclosed is Certificate of Compliance No. 6697, Revision No. 4, for the Model No. GE-8500 shipping package. This certificate supersedes, in its entirety, Certificate of Compliance No. 6697, Revision No. 3, dated January 24, 1979. Changes made to the enclosed certificate are indicated by vertical lines in the margin.

Those on attached list have been registered as users of this package under the general license provisions of 10 CFR 571.12(b) or 49 CFR 5173.393a. This approval constitutes autharity to use this package for s

shipment of radioactive material and for the package to be shipped in accordance with the provisions of 49 CFR 5173.393a.

To obtain an IAEA Competent Authority Certificate for this package, you should submit an application to the Department of Transportation with three copies to us. The application should demonstrate that the package meets the requirements of IAEA Safety Series No. 6.

Please note that the package design, contents, and operating procedures must be the same for the Competent Authority Certificate as in the NRC Certificate of Compliance.

If you desire a Competent Authority Certificate for an alternate package design, contents or operating procedures, you must first obtain an appropriate revision of the NRC Certificate of Compliance.

Future appli-cations for revision of' NRC Certificate of Compliance No. 6697 should include a consolidated Safety Analysis Report for the Model No. GE-8500 package.
