SUBJECT:
REQUEST TO CONDUCT A CONFIRMATORY RADIAT'ON SURVEY FOR U.S. NUCLEAR FACILITY DECOMMISSIONING By letter dated January 29, 1979, U.S. Nuclear, Inc. (USN) requested the decommissioning of their facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
In support of this request, USN submitted a radiological survey report (copy er.-losed) of the facility to show that the measured contaminaion levels are wi S the NRC's " Guidelines for Decontamination of Facility for Unrestricted Use" dated Nov. 1976.
Accordingly, it is requested that your Region II Field Office conduct an iMependent survey to verify that the facility and equip-ment (both inside and outside the building) have been decontaminated te acceptable levels, particularly in thcse areas where the measured conti.m-nation levels of the facility and equipment are approaching the maximum permissible limits.
The results of the confirmatory survey and your recommendations on this matter should be submitted to the Uranium Fuel Fabrication Section, Divison of Fuel Cycle and Material Safety, Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards so that we may take appropriate action.
