Certificate of Compliance 6058 Amendment Request.
Dear Mr. MacDonald:
On March 12 and 22, 1979 we informed you of ite:.is of non-compliance 6058.
Since._that time the casks have been out of service while we actively pursued corrective measures.
The as built casks, with the addition of a heat shield, have been evaluated by Battelle Merorial_Instit ca and found to be comparable to'tTie cask design they originally eval uated.
Under separat.e cover, Battelle is sending in our behalf the following revisions to the two primary documents referenced in Certificate of Compliance 6058:

Revision A Amendment to Safet.y Analysis for Shipment of Radioactive Wasta.4a te ri als in the Modified NECO Shipping Cask Model 1:o. B3-1, dated April 9, 1979.

~2-April 12, 1979 We request that Certificate 6058 be modified in the following nanner based on this new material:
1.
Item 5. (a) (2), delete the reference to nild steel in the second paragraph.
Make the third sentence read, "the inner shell is of !;-inch thich steel plate."
2.
Item 5. (a) ( 3), allow the use of the as-built drawing by adding to the end of the sentence the phrase, "or Revision C."
3.
References - Add reference to " Union Carbide Corporation amendment request dated April 12, 1979".
We assume that this will be treated as a minor amendment which, pursuant to Category llB of 10 CFR 170.31, is charged to us for NRC services up to a maximum of $2,800.
You will find a check for that amount enclosed.
We will sincerely appreciate your uxpeditious review and approval of this matter so we can be free of the existing hardship.
