Attention:

Mr.

C. MacDonald, Chief Transportation Branch N

g Gentlemen:

Subject:

Quality Assurance Program, 10CFR70, Appendix E During January of 1979, the Westinghouse Electric Corporation (Messrs. DiPiazza and Trevett) discussed with Mr. Odegaarden of your staff a need for our shipping container supplier to have an approved quality assurance plan pursuant to 10CFR70 Appendix E.

During our conversation, Westinghouse indicated that all critical-ity analyses regarding these containers would be performed by Westinghouse.

Based upon this information Mr. Odegaarden indi-cated that the container supplier would not be required to have such a QA program but could be included under the Westinghouse program (WCAP-7800) which has been submitted to the NRC and approved in accordance with Appendix B of 10CFR50.

Please send written confirmation of this understanding.

If you have any questions regarding this matter, please telephone me at 412-373-4652 or write me at the above address.

Very truly yours, A
