( l c,em a3 December 6, 1979 To Whom It May Concern:

I was distressed to learn that the hearing on upgrading emergency procedures at the Indian Point nuclear plant will be held on December 18, which is a Tuesday. Like many oeople who are concerned with the plant, I work and,there-fore, will be unable to attend the hearing.

I live forty miles from the plant and would be at peril incase of a meltdown.

I, and everyone else who lives in New York City, would be subject to inct acad cancer risk not to mention the chaos that might ensue if panic set in.

I believe, as do some of the employees at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, that it is insanity to locate a nuclear plant in an area with such a high population density. Evacuation of this area is not really possible.

the recent disclosures of laxity in security procedures at the plant are hardly reassuring.

Since my health ( and perhaps my life) is at stake, and since my tax menay pays for the hearing and your salary, I ask you to reschedule the hearing to a weekend, and to hold all further hearings on weekends.

Sincerely yours, r;
