AND APPLESEED On May 21, 1979, the State of Illinois filed a petition for leave to intervene in the above-captioned matter.
Similarly, on May 25, 1979, four individuals, B.

Quigley, and an unincorporated organization, Appleseed, jointly filed a petition for leave to intervene in this matter.
This constitutes the response of the applicant, General Electric Company
(" General Electric"), to those petitions.
Although 10 C.F.R.
S 2.714 (c) (1979) provides that a paruy to the proceeding, such as General Electric,may file an ar.swer to the petitions for leave to intervene, it does not require any party to do so.
Nevertheless, to ensure that the record in this proceeding is clear, General Electric feels it appropriate to state its position concerning those petitions.
