Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region IV 611 Ryan Plaza Drive, Suite 1000 Arlington, Texas 76011 Subj ect : Arkansas Nuclear One - Unit 2 Docket No. 50-368 License No. NPF-6 IE Ilulletin 79-13 (File: 2-1510.1)

Gentlemen:

As committed in our July 12, 1979, letter we will perform the inspections required by IE Bulletin 79-13, Item 1, on Arkansas Nuclear one -- Unit 2, after the completion of power ascension testing. We request a 90-day extension to complete the above mentioned inspections. Our bases for this request are as follows: -

1. A 90-day extension would allow us to complete power ascension testing without shutting down to perform the subject examina-tions. The requested extension allows for some expected delays in testing. ,
2. As described in our July 27, 1979, letter to Mr. Dacrel Eisenhut, the feedwater nozzle-to-pipe welds received a 100% radiography inspection after fabrication. In addition, all feedwater system welds received a preservice inspection in accordance with Section XI during July 1977.
3. The ANO-2 feedwater system has exnerienced a very limited number of thermal cycles due to the plant still being in power ancen-sion testing.

/: . We do not believe that the subject cracking is generic to Com--

bustion Engineering plants and do not feel the urgency implied in a 90-day reporting period is necessarily applicabic in this Case.
