SEP 13 M Docket No. 50-334 ME NRANDUtd FOR:

A. Schwencer, Chief, Operating Reactors No. l FROM:

Paul F. Collins, Chief, Operator Licensing Branch, DPM

SUBJECT:

ADMINISTRATION OF OPERATOR AND SENIOR OPERATOR EXAMINATIONS AT BEAVER VALLEY POWER STATION Operator licensing examinations were discontinued on all PWR reactors in March 1979 following the accident at TMI-2.

This action was taken so that our examinations would incorporate questions on facility modifications and procedural changes required pursuant to the resolution of responses to IE Bulletins 79-05, 79-06,79-06A and 79-06B.

Based on our review of the facility's response to Bulletins 79-06 and 79-06A, we have determined we will resume administering examinations at Beaver Valley Pomr Station.

Our determination is based on the following:

1.

The Bulletins and Orders Task Force satisfied with the short term modifications proposed by the licensee.

2.

The short term modifications have been completed and reviewed by IE.

3.

New and/or revised normal, abnormal and emergency procedures have been written 2nd reviewed by IE.

4 Applicants for operator and senior operator licenses have received the appropriate training.

5.

Long term facility modifications and additional procedure changes will be addressed in requalification programs as they are implemented.
