Dear Governor Ray:
In my letter of July 18, 1979, I discussed briefly the approach the NRC was taking to deal with the various items set forth in your letter to me of July 10, 1979 concerning the transportation and disposal of low-level radio-active waste.
Enclosed is a current list of the actions NRC is taking to improve the transportation and disposal of low-level radioactive waste and the status of each action.
These actions have been closely coordinated with representa-tives of the Department of Transportation.
I believe the completion of these actions will go a long way toward providing a high degree of assurance that the transportation and disposal of low-level radioactive waste are being conducted in accordance with DOT, NRC and Agreement State regulations.
I would be pleased to receive any comments you may have on this matter.
