(6) You indicated in Enclosure 1 that the Zion plant is the only one of the sh whcse spent fact pool rests directly on or in the ground.

Is the Zion pool in or on.the ground?

If in the ground, how many feet into the soil is the spent fuel pool situated? Is the Lake Michigan utzter Levet above or bcLow the Zion spent fuel poot?

(7) How far from Lake Michigan are.the sh spent fuel pools located?

(8) How of. ten is the soil around the spent fuel pools monitored for parposes of detecting Leakage of radioactive contaminated pool uttter? Are any special precautions or monitoring tech-niques being implemented at Zion to detect Leakage into the soil or groundantter?

(9) Docs the NRC consider suspension of the spent fuel pool utithin the plant preferable to built-in-the-ground construc-tion from a safety standpoint?

(10) What are the quantitics and types of radioactis e emissions to the environment due to current storage of spent fact at the sh nuclear piants? What are the additional estimated radioactive emissions due to increased spent fuet storage at the four plants cartently requesting License amendments?
