The relationship of the work with the Control, Auxiliary, and Fuel Building structures is briefly summarized below:

RDC No.

Modifir.ation Relationship 76-560, Addition of dampers at This modification involves the addi-DCP 17 fire walls, tion or replacement of fire dampers and DCP 23 at various locations in the Control, Auxiliary, and Fuel Building Complex.

No new penetrations are required.

Installation of some of the dampers will include attachment of small closer angles and/or duct supports to walls, Sb I I"*

which are in some cases shear walls.

addition, 45 ft of conduit, a new pull box, and a new slab penetration will be installed.

No new penetrations of, or attachments to, shear walls are required.

The total weight added will be less than 100 lbs.

Modifiention Relationship 77 079, Addition of door alarms.

Doors in the Control, Auxiliary and Fuel DCP 30 Building Complex will be provided with alarms.

Electrical boxes and conduit will in some cases be attached to shear walls, typically by 3/8-in. diameter, approximately 3-in. long concrete inserts.

Maximum weight added to any wall is on the order of 600 lbs.

The total weight added in the Complex will be less than 5,000 lbs.

No new penetrations of shear walls are required.

Installation of the door alarms will not reduce the capacity of the shear walls to resist the required seismic loads.77-079, Modification to an HVAC An existing air grill will be blocked off DCP 31 sy stem and about 15 ft. of small duct and a new grill will be added at elevation 93 ft.

in the Control Building. No new attach-ments to or penetrations of shear walls are required. The total weight addition will be less than 100 lbs.77-079, Addition of base radio New base radio antennas will be 'added DCP 11

antennas, at elevation 93 ft. in the Fuel Building, at elevation 25 ft. in the Auxiliary Building, and at elevation 77 ft. in the Control Building. Electrical boxes and conduit with cable will interconnect the antennas with the base radio.

Three new 4-inch diameter slab penetrations and two wall (not shear walls) penetrations, 4-inch and 7-inch diameter, are required.

No penetrations of or attachments to shear walls are involved. The total weight addi-tion in the Complex is less than 3,000 lbs.

Dear Sirs:

In a telephone call today with your Messrs. Tratnell, Herring and Gray, clarification was requested concerning the review cade of one of the Control Building wall sections which I centioned in my February 28, 1979 letter to you.

Af ter developing information f rom the rebar cut-sheets, we reviewed the analyses performed during preparation of the September 19, 1978 Supplemental S tructural Evaluation.

"In the supplenental analysis, just as in the previous analyses, the critical storiec are those at el 45 ft to 77 ft.

Walls above el 77 ft have capacities at least equal to the capacities of the walls at el 45 ft to 77 ft, and the loads on these walls above el 77 ft are lower."

(Clarification !/27, Response to NRC Questions dated August 30, 1978).

Thus, the capacities of the major shear walls above 77 f t were established to be at least 150 psi.

Since their shear stresses were calculated to be less than 150 psi, the walls' capacities were not required to be investigated further.

The new inforcation does not affect the use of the minimum value of 150 psi.

Therefore, the new information does not in any way affect the September analyses for the Control Building walls and has no inpact on the Licensee's analyses and conclusions for interin operation, and thus does not impact the analyses and conclusions of the NRC Staf f nor any testimony or evidence relied on by the Licensing Board in their Partial Initial Decision.

However, recognizing our continuing duty to keep the NRC and the Board informed of all matters relating to the Control Building walls, we considered it appropriate to supply such information to you.

Sincerely, i
