C. 20555 License No. DPR-35 Docket No. 50-293 Fire Protection

Dear Sir:

This letter advises you of the results of two analyses required to be completed by the safety evaluation supporting Amendment No. 35 to our operating license.

Also a new implementation date for completion of a required modification and the reason for the delay is stated.

Item 3.2.6 Suppression of Charcoal Fire in Augmented Off-Gas System A radiological dose calculation was performed to determine the two hour whole body dose at the nearest exclusion area boundary using conservative assumptions.

The results of this analysis demonstrate that this dose is less than five rem.

Item 3.2.3 Battery Room Ventilation Air Flow Monitor Calculations were performed to determine the hydrogen evolution and the time necessary to reach an explosive concentration level of 2% by volume. For Battery Room A it was 700 hours0.0081 days
0.194 hours
0.00116 weeks
2.6635e-4 months
and for Battery Room B it was 190 hours0.0022 days
0.0528 hours
3.141534e-4 weeks
7.2295e-5 months
.

Item 3.1.16 Self Contained Breathing Apparatus The implementation date for this modification was not met. The air manifold breathing system - a key piece of equipment in the modification - was received at Pilgrim Station the middle of December, 1978. The equipment was examined i 7901230L73
