SETSMIC RESTRAINTS FOR CRD PIPING - DRESTWN 2 On November 18, 1969, an inspection of sore of the Class I piping systens for the Dresden 2 plant was tude in regard to the installation of seisrde restraints. L'e have the follo.cing cements regarding tha CAD piping that is Class I: 1. One additional support should be installed en the piping at each end and above the Hydraulic Control Units similar t.o the supports at interr;cdlate points. 2. At points where the horizontal piping cibows into the vertical piping goint, to the control r:odule and cantilevers, tore than 2 feet from the last support should be cla ped to the nearesc rigid horincatal pipe running between supports. 3. The 4-inch scram discharge headers should have horizontal supports that are spaced not vore than 18 feet opart. 4.

'Ihe 2-inch ceran discharge pipe going to the 10-inch neram discharto volute asser..bly chould h tvc horizontal cupports that are cpaced not core Lhan clcVen icet apart.

3I e r / li.F. Lattin i Nover:ber 26, 1969 The insert and withdrau lines from the penetration of the dryvell to the reactor pressure vessel pedestal are ...legaately cupported except cere of the clanps attaching the pipes to the support fraces give vertical support only - these should be replaced with clc- ps that extend corpletely around the pipe, providing thernal conditions vill pernit. Alno, the nupport franes beyond ti.e dryvell penetration should bc horizontally restrainad. The nost critical insert and withdraw lines from the pedestal to the control Rod Drives in these should be dynamically analyzed to deterr.ine the naxitum stresses lines. In these runs, there are no horizontal restraints and the spans are ruch greater than 9 feet. The above cc:~ents should not be taken as indicating that all of the Cin;;s I piping systc 2 , are adequately supported to resist selt.nic lotces, as only a fe *wurs were devoted to this inspection and review. i I t h above cocuents should be reviewed with Sargent & Lundy in that this is in their arca of responsibility.
