Dear Mr. Reid:

Re: Docket 50-54 This will serve to notify you of our intention to request renewal of License No. R-81 for the Union Carbide Nuclear Reactor located at Tuxedo, N. Y. The current license expires 30 June 1980. Renewal will be for a period similar to the current period but not in excess of 40 years from the date of the initial construction permit.

You are aware that during the past two years the safety analysis for this research reactor has been updated and revised through the issuance of several supplements and that up-to-date Technical Specifications have been written and approved effective 17 September 1979 The most signi-ficant documents required for renewal are therefore current. Kindly advise what other documentation will be needed to complete the application for license renewal.

Please address all future correspondence on license renewal to the undersigned. Correspondence or contacts on matters related to the current operating license should continue to be directed to Mr. Marcus H. Voth.
