STN 50-482/Rpt. 79-01

Dear Mr. Seidle:

This letter is written in response to your letter of March 1,1979, which transmitted Inspection Report 50-482/79-01. As requested, each finding is being addressed in three parts:

a)

Corrective steps which have been taken and the results

achieved, b)

Corrective steps which will be taken to avoid further non-compliance, and c)

The dates when full compliance will be achieved.

1. Finding On July 18, 1978, Concrete Batches no. 7585 and 75R7 of the third lif t for the Containment Building wall were not tested to confirm their acceptability following Batches No. 7584 and 7586, respectively,,

which were determined to be rejectable in that they exceeded slump limits for both the original and check tests. This matter was identified during a quality records review and verified during sub-sequent discussions with the licensee representatives.

Response

a)

The failure to test concrete batches #7565 and #7587 has been documented on Nonconformance Report No. ISN0823C. This report will be forwarded to our Architect / Engineer for disposition.

Mr. W.C. Seidle March 23, 1979 b)

A training class on the Technical Specification for Materials Testing Services (No. 10466-C-191) will be conducted for all the Inspectors involved in the testing of concrete. This training will emphasize the require-ments -or testing batches, which follow batches that do not pass, to confirm acceptability.

c)

Processing of NCR ISN0823C and the additional training will be completed by May 20, 1979.

Please advise if you need additional information.
