BROOKHAVEN NATIONAL LABORATORY (BNL) TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE ON THE MARK I CONTAINMENT ASSESSMENT TO THE DIVISION OF OPERATING REACTORS This letter provides guidance and funding to BNL to support the Division of Operating Reactors in the evaluation of Mark I Containment Suppression Pool Hydrodynamic Loads.

The scope of work for this program remains unchanged from that specified in our letter of November 16, 1978. A modified schedule for this program is defined in the enclosure. The FY 1979 CH Financial Plan should be modified to include an additional

$60,000 for this work under B&R 2019 04 032 Fin A3108. This funding increase is necessary to provide sufficient resources to complete the originally defined scope of work.

A copy of the existing work scope is enclosed for reference.

The Division of Operating Rea : tors technical contact for this program is Chris Grimes (301-492-7110).

The enclosed NRC Fom 173, Standard Order for DOE Work, for an additional $60,000 is her^y submitted in accordance with Section III.B.2 of the DOE /NRC Memorandum of Understanding of February 24, 1978.

Please indicate DOE acceptance by signing and returning the enclosed NRC Fom 173 to the NRC Office of the Controller, Division of Accounting, with a copy to the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, Attention P. Triplett.
