NRC STAFF TESTIMONY RELATIVE TO ANTICIPATED TRANSIENTS WITHOUT SCRAM (ATWS)

AND RADON-222 On March 2, 1979, the Staff submitted its dccumented testimony on the status of Anticipated Transients Without Scram (ATWS) in the form of an affidavit of Dennis P. Allison and Ashok C. Thadani dated March 1, 1979.

The Staff moved that the affidavit and NUREG-0460, Volume 3 be placed in evidence as Starf Exhibit No. 16.

The Board has considered this submittal and finds it satisfies the Board's concern with this generic safety issue.

The Beard has no further questions and there is no need for a hearing.

Staff Exhibit No. 16 is admitted into evidence.

On March 5,1979, the Staff submitted the so-called Perkins record on Radon-222 in the S-3 Table on the environ-mental effects of the nuclear fuel cycle.

The Intervenors 7904090 Y

m

. G are on record that they would not pa r t ic ipa te in the Radon-222 matter (Tr. 9934-35).

During the recent evident iary hearing on the seismic issue, the Applicant urged the Board to accept the Perkins record into evidence in this pro c e e din g.

(Tr. 9937).

The Board has examined the submittal and has determined that it is the complete Perkins record on Radon-222 and has no further questions of the parties.

The NRC Staff moved that this record be admitted into evidence as Staff Exhibit No. 16.

The Board has determined that s ince it is a separate matter from Staff Exhibit No. 16, it is admitted into evidence but as Staff's Exhibit No. 17.

IT IS SO ORDERED.

FOR THE ATOMIC SAFETY AND LICENSING BOARD d

Elizapeth S. Bowers, Chairman Dated at Bethesda, Maryland This 12th day of March 1979.
