Attention: Mr. Harold F.. Denton, Director

Dear Mr. Denton:

I am one of the may people who are concerned about our energy supplies and would like for you to consider my thoughts on this important =atter.

In view of our dependence on imported oil which is becoming more and more expensive and less and less reliable, we need to do more to replace it with domestic energy sources.

Eastern states coal will help, but most of it is " dirty" and so would be expensive. Western states coal is doubtful because of the opposition to strip mining, and would be expensive to haul to market.

Domestic gas and oil appear to be holding steady or declining in production.

Now, that leaves nuclear energy as our best alternative.

Your commission should do everything possible to help the construction of the plants now started and those that are being planned.

The accident at Three Mile Island was not serious enough to warrant your commission declaring a freeze on permits and liscenses of these plants.

I would like to see you consider all of these plants one by one as quickly as possible and allow them to go forward with construction and planning.

We cannot af ford to wait a year or two to resume our nuclear energy plans.

I have read that Japan, France and Germany are building nuclear power plants as fast as they can in order to be free from OPEC oil; we should do the same.

Surely you can pool your knowledge with theirs and produce the safety guidelines necessary to expedite our nuclear construction.

Please give this matter your earnest attention.

Very truly yours, 23[39 il 5 GwA EdL, Edward B. Folse, Jr.
