MEMORANDUM FOR: John T. Collins, Deputy Director Three Mile Island Support FROM:
Richard H. Vollmer. Director Three Mile Island Support
SUBJECT:
INDEPENDENT MONITORING BY NRC The Goldsboro incident last week, where it was reported (enclosure) that a radiation monitor registered 2 rem /hr and the NRC had no independent verification, raises a problem which will likely get worse because of the krypton leakage (venting issue). The problem is our current dependence on Met Ed monitoring equipment.
On a high priority basis, please investigate the feasibility of placing appropriate monitors (eg CAM's) in the trailer and Middletown office.
