February 16, 1979 PRELIMINARY fl0TIFICATION OF SAFEGUARDS EVENT--
PNS-79-12
_This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE national security or public interest significance.
The information presented i_s as initially received without venification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.
Facility:
Pacific Gas & Electric Company Diablo Canyon Units Nos.1 & 2 Docket Nos. 50-275 & 50-323 San Luis Obispo County, California
Subject:
BOMB THREAT The latest in a long series of bomb threats related to Diablo Canyon was received by a clerk in the office of an onsite contractor (Pullman Power Products) at 5:30 p.m. on February 14, 1979.
A female stated words to the effect "There is a bomb in Unit 1 containment set to go off at eight o' clock" (a.m. or p.m. unknown).
The site security office notified the San Luis Obispo Sheriff's Department.
The licensee has conducted a search with negative results.
They have also given construction workers the option of continuing to work or taking the rest of the day off.
Media interest is not expected by the licensee and no press release is planned.
NRC Region V (San Francisco) received telephone notification of the bomb threat from the assigned onsite inspector at 9:10 a.m. on February 15, 1979.
The State of California has been notified.
The IAT was notified.
