PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION June 22, 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF SAFEGUARDS EVENT--
PNS-79-62 Thir preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE national security or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.
FACILITY:
Tennessee Valley Authority Sequoyah Nos. I and 2 Docket Nos. 50-327 and 50-328 Chattanooga, Tennessee
SUBJECT:
BOMB THREAT At 6:05 a.m. on June 22, 1979, the Chattanooga Police received a telephone call from an unknown male who stated that there was a bomb at the Sequoyah Plant that would go off at 6:20 (a.m. or p.m. unknown).
The plant was notified at 6:12 a.m.
The plant site was evacuated and a search was initiated with negative results.
Fuel is on-site and plant construction for Unit 1 is 99%
complete.
Media interest is anticipated.
A news release is not planned by the licensee or NRC. The State of Tennessee has been informed.
The FBI was notified by the licensee.
The IAT has been notified.
Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the licensee at 8:15 a.m. on June 22, 1979.
