PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION September 10, 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF SAFEGUARDS EVENT--
PNS 100 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE national security or public irterest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.

SUBJECT:
OFFER TO SELL WEAPONS GRADE URANIUM This morning's edition of the Atlanta Journal and Constitution carries a Classified Advertisement which reads, " Weapons Grade Uranium, 325-8939".
Region II determined that this telephone has been changed to an unlisted' number.
Region II notified the Atlanta FBI and a preliminary inquiry is now being conducted by the FBI.
Region II has briefed Atlanta FBI on Safeguards and Material Safety assistance available.
Atlar.ta television interest has been received and referred to Atlanta FBI.
A news 1 release is not planned by NRC.
The State of Georgia has been informed.
The IAT has been notified.
Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from a licensee Corporate Security representative at 9:00 a.m. on September 10, 1979.
