PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION August 6, 1979 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF SAFEGUARDS EVENT -- PNS-79-85.
This oreliminary rotification constitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSIBLE national security or public interest sionificance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.
FACILITY:
Tennessee Valley Authority Sequoyah, Unit Nos. 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-327 and 50-328 Chattanooga, Tennessee
SUBJECT:
BOMB THREAT At 2:07 a.m. on August 4,1979, the construction site security office was contacted by the Hamilton County Police, who had been informed by the Chattanooga city police, that an unidentified individual had called and stated that a bomb would go off in the plant at 2:15 a.m.
Both uni's were evacuated and a search conducted.
Nothing was found and workers returnec at 3:00 a.m.
Fuel is on site.
Unit 1 construction is 99 percent complete and Unit 2 con-struction is 82 percent complete.
Media interest is not anticipated.
A news release is not planned by the licensee or the NRC.
The State of Tennessee has been informed.
The FBI has been notified by the licensee.
The IAT has been notified.
Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the Resident Inspector at 9:00 a.m. on August 4,.1979. OIE Headquarters received notification from Region II at 9:15 a.m. on August 6, 1979.
