S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 631 Park Avenue King of Prussia, Pennsylvania 19406 I&E Bulletin 79-03 Long Island Lighting Company Jamesport Nuclear Pow;r Station - Units 1&2 Docket Nos. 50-516 & 50-517
Dear Mr. Grier:
In response to Inspection and Enforcement Bulletin No. 79-03, we have reviewed the Jamesport Nuclear Power Station (JNPS) design and submit the following response.
Piping on Jamesport is divided into two groups; that supplied by Westinghouse as part of the Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS),
and balance of plant piping yet to be purchased.
The subject Youngstown Welding & Engineering Co. defective welded pipe is not used in the manufacture of the JNPS nuclear steam supply system supplied by Westinghouse.
All the Westinghouse supplied pipe for um on the JNPS NSSS is of either forged seamless or centrifugally cast construction.
For the balance of plant, the piping specifications for safety class piping shall state that no Type 304, 316 ASME SA 312 or other welded (without filler metal) pipe manufactured before November 1978 hy Youngstown Welding & Engineering Co. is to be used in the JNPS design.
We trust that we have been responsive to your request.
If you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Very truly yours, 790a290 2142 143 g g4 9q R.
