Dear Senntor:
NCR vs 'Wiscastet We reside about forty alles from the Wiscesset Nuclear
?19nt.
We use in our home, power from the Central Meine Pcwer Comoany which ooerates the Wiscasset facilities.
The shut-ting down of this clant meens a lot to us monthly in the incre9 sed p ower costs.
Froc the news editorials, we understand that the safety uncertainties relate to back-uc cooling systems, not the main coolant oipes - and even in theses cases --
that the croblem can occur only when there te an accident in these back-up cooling pipes to be followed immediately by a severe earthqueke.
Ye are all for safety in nucleer plants, but it appears that there has to be some reasonable belance in jud ment.
E In this particular case, we strongly suEgest that the plent be left in operation - but with a time limit given to Central Maine Power to oresent to the NCR the adeo.uate safety solution.
Respectfully,
~
