Dear Dr. Hendrie,
I am writing to protest the closing of !aine Yankee, as well as the other nuclear generators closed recently.
When this was announced, I could not believe it.
I was sure that the realiz-ation of the tremendous damage done through increased costs and depleted oil reserves needed ~or other uses would allow these plants to go back on stream in a matter of days.
This has not happened.
History shows that even if everything is able to be brought within limits within a short timi, that excessive down-time will result from further delays ir. approvals.
In short, it is as though an aneurism has been induced!
The surgery ly be thought to be a success, but with no full know-ledge of all of the shocks to the various segments of the economy to come, Ilus those felt to date, the net effect may be the death of the p.tient.
This produces an intolerable situation, whereby the cumulative effects can, in the present situation, get entirely out of control, bringing on recession of monsterous proportions.
Please do everything possible to get these plants back on stream at once!
Let further work be organized to be taken care of during regularly scheduled shut-downs, if it is de-termined to be.ecessary.
We need positive action, and we need it now.
So many things are in the laps of the gods these days - here is something that can be done now to help.
