MAY - 81979 Docket No. 50-201 MEMORANDUM FOR: Leland C. Rouse, Acting Chief Fuel Reprocessing and Recycle Branch FROM:

A. Thomas Clark, Jr.

Charles J Haughney Fuel Reprocessing and Recycle Branch

SUBJECT:

SITE VISIT TO WEST VALLEY - ROCKWELL HANFORD MEETING WITH NUCLEAR FUEL SERVICES, INC, (NFS)

On May 1 and 2, 1979 we visited the West Valley site to attend meetings sponsored by Rockwell Hanford Operations.

Rockwell has contracted with us to prepare a plan for obtaining additional physical data on the safety of storage of high-level waste at the site. Meeting attendees and the agenda are shown on the attached sheets.

We did not attend the Thursday, May 3 session.

The purpose of the Rockwell visit was to obtain detailed site information in order to prepare a plan for obtaining the physical data, This work is in accordance with our Statement of Work under Fin B2210-9. A tour of pertinent plant areas was taken.

Discussions were held with NFS personnel on the various project tasks of the contract. These tasks, as defined by Rockwell, are, annular space inspection, tank inspection, waste sampling and analysis, corrosion studies, soil transport studies, thermal evaluation, data evaluation, and project support.

It was indicated that further site visits by Rockwell probably would not be necessary to prepare the Phase I plan, s
