Dear Sir:

On May 3,1979, Fir. Dick Odegaarden of the Transportation Branch, U. S.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission, called Tom Walt of the Trojan Nuclear Plant of Portland General Electric Company, requesting information con-cerning PCE's quality assurance (QA) program for radioactive material shipments made in accordance with 10 CFR 71.

PGE is committed to using the pertinent requirements of our existing 10 CFR 50, Appendix B, QA Program, the Nuclear Projects Quality Assurance Program for Operations (NPQAP/0), in a graded approach to apply to the use of approved packages and procedures for packing radioactive material for transportation in accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 71.

The NPQAP/0 was submitted to the NRC as Chapter 17.2 of the Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR) on December 18, 1972, and approved with the issuance of the Trojan Nuclear Plant Operating License on November 21, 1975.

This was updated to Revision 4 on February 2, 1979 as A=endment 33 to the FSAR.
