D0CKET N05. 50-266 AND 50-301 P0lf4T BEACH NUCLEAR PLAf4T RESPONSE TO IE BULLETIN NO. 79-04 This is to respond to IE Bulletin No. 79-04 which requested informa-tion concerning weights of swing check valves used in Seismic Category 1 piping system stress analyses. These valves were provided by Velan Engineering Corporation and have a flange rating of 1500 psi.
We have reviewed our records for Point Beach Nuclear Plant and have detemined that 3-inch and 6-inch Velan check valves were used in the Chemical and Volume Control System and the Safety Injection System. A list of the piping systems in which these valves are installed, as requested by Item 1 of IE Bulletin No. 79-04, is provided in the enclosure to this letter. We have also determined that valve weights less than those given in your bulletin were used in piping system analysis. We are presently reviewing the piping system stress analyses for the items noted in the enclosure and expect that this review will be completed in approximately two weeks.
Based upon a preliminary review, we do not expect that modificatiors will be required in either piping systems or piping supports. We will provide results of the review and the computer codes used, as requested by Items 4 and 5 of IE Bulletin No. 79-03 when they become available.
