HOUSTON'S MOTION FOR EXTENSION OF TIME Pursuant to 10 CFR SS2. 711(a) and 2.74 0b (b) , Houston Lighting

& Power Company moves the Board for an extension of the time in which to either respond or object to interrogatories and document requests of the NRC Staff.

On January 15, 1979, the NRC Staff served Houston with its Initial Interrogatories and Requests for Production of Documents.

Houston's responses and objections are due on February 5, 1979, with respect to the interrogatories and on February 20 with respect to the requests for production. Houston moves for an extension of time to respond or object to the interrogatories until February 20, 1979.

As good cause for this motion, Houston asserts that these interrogatories and requests for production require extensive investigation and file searching. Despite diligent effort, Houston 79021200 9

is unable to respond or object to the interrogatories before February 20. Furthermore, the interrogatories and requests for production are inextricably intertwined in the joint discovery request, so that responding to one before the other is neither economical nor practical.

The NRC Staff is aware of this motion.

Respectfully submitted,

- 4 William J. Franklin Attorney for Houston Lighting
