With reference to cur telephone conversation and a conversation with Mr.
Ross Chappell of ycur staff en 14 Dece=ber 1978, we vish to apply for an amendment to our USNRC Certificate of Ccmpliance for Radicactive Materials Packages Number 9033 We wish to have the maxi =um total weight of the package amended to read k8 pcunds. This vill acccmodate variations in the weight of package ecmponents, principally the depleted Uranium Shield Casting. This vould be a maximum veight of the package. We contend that this small weight increase vculd not invalidate any of the tests perfor=ed to assure package integrity.
We also wish to amend the certificate to include in the package description "Ziracalloy. S Tube or Titanium 3 Tube." We plan to use Titanium tubes to improve the wear characteristics of the tube. We contend that this change vill have no adverse affect en the package integrity. Titanium tubes have been deemed acceptable in two other similar packages which we manufacture (Model 650, Certificate No. 9032; Model 750, Certificate no. 9021).
Please find enclosed a copy of drawing B66001-23 Rev C vnich indicates the "S" Tube enange. Also, please find enclosed a check for $150.00 as the amendment fee in accordance with 10CFRlTO.
We wish that this application also be reviewed against the 1973 LCA Safety Series No 6 to allow the Department of Transportation to issue an IAEA Certificate of Ccapetent Authority for this package under the 1973 revised regulations. Your expediticus handling of this application vculd be greatly appreciated.
