On August 10, 1979, we sent IE Bulletin No. 79-19, " Packaging of Low-Level Radioactive Waste for Transport and Surial," to you for inforsation and action.
Item 9 of that Bulletin required you to report, in writing, vic.hin 45 days of receipt of the Bulletin, your plan of action and schedule with regard to Items 1 t.hrough 8 of the Bulletin.
Thus far, we do not have a record of your response to the Bulletin. We realize that in zeveral cases the Bulletins have gone astray and may not have reached you.
Another copy of IE Bulletin No. 79-19 is *nclosed for your use.
You are reminded that such response is required. Authority and clearance for issuing the reporting requirements of the Bulletin have been approved for thi:
agency by the U.S. General Accounting Office.
As you probably realize, improper shipping practices were the major contributor to the current waste disposal crisis.
The NRC is doing what it can to end this crisis and your prompt attention to this Bulletin and your reply can help us solve this problem.
