This is in reply to your letter of April 10, 1979 to President Carter.
I au sus ry for the delay but we have been very busy with the afterath of the Three Mile Island accident.
'.'arious investications of that accident have been made or are in process, including those of the.4uclear Regulatory Commission, the Congress, and the President's Commission on the Accident at Three 11ile Island. L'e have learned a number of lessons from the accident and are applying the information to prevent such accidents in the futuce.
We assure you that every effort is being made to ensure the continued protection of the public health and safety at all nuclear pcwer pl an ts.

Why is Energy Secretary Schlesinger making the recommendation to_ speed up nuclear plant construction in the face of such glaring evidence?
Now is the time to evaluate and alter those safety regulations which so far seem to be quite inadequate in protecting the public.
There is rLo reason why--nuclear ~gower nlants can't be safe.
