Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 1 Docket No. 50-334 IE Bulletin 79-04 Gentlemen:

We have reviewed the referenced bulletin and determined that a total of twenty-six (26) Velan Check Valves are installed in the Beaver Valley Power Station.

Fourteen (14) of these valves are installed in 6-inch lines. All of these lines have previously been reanalyzed using the actual valve weights and the stresses have been determined to be within the applicable code allowable values.

An additional eleven (11) Velan Check Valves are installed in 3-inch lines.

Although the reanalysis of all lines has not been completed, we do not believe that the change in valve weights will result in calculated overstresses since the valves are installed in close proximity to pipe supports.

We will notify you if any potentially overstressed conditions are discovered upon completion of the reanalysis.

The Beaver Valley Power Station is presently in a cold shutdown condition and all the reanalyses will be completed prior to start-up.

Very truly yours, 2355 070 cc: U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Comm.
