NRC l&E BULLETIN 79-04 INCORRECT WEIGHTS FOR SWING CHECK VALVES MANUFACTURED BY VELAN ENGINEERING CORPORATION
Dear Mr. Grier:
The staff of the FitzPatrick plant has reviewed subject I&E Bulletin which deals with the pcssibility that incorrect valve weights were used for the analysis of piping systems during the construction phase of the plant.
At the present time, the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant is shutdown contingent upon the re-analysis of certain safety-related piping systems.
Because the subject of this Bulletin interfaces with the present analysis being accomplished by our architect-engineer, I have requested that our Headquarters Office take this Bulletin for action with our architect-engineer since the results of the study requested by this Bulletin may have to be incor-porated in the piping stress analysis. The Headquarters office,of the Power Authortty has concurred in this approach to the problem.
Therefore, results of the investigation requested by the Bulletin will be completed with the completion of the pipe stress analysis.
Unless further communication is received from your office on this m.atter, we will consider that this approach is satisfactory in the case of the FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant.
