In line with our continuing efforts to keep you fully informed concerning research information which may have licensing significance, an infonnal report from Brookhaven i!ational I.ab describing the status of investigations of Incoloy-800H properties -- -

is enclosed. This information has becn made available to members of your staff.

It is well known that the creep rupture life of Incoloy-800H at high temperatures is sensitively dependent on the grain size and

T, that the ability to coarsen the grain size by irnaarsion annealing depends upon the local concentration of impurities.

The Bill measurements., in addit *,n to confirming the expected pro-party variation with grain size, observed that solution annealing at 2100T, the conventionally employed annealing temperature, did not consistently produce the large, grain size required to achieve the minimal stress rupture properties for Incoloy-800H.

The potential for incomplete grain coarsening at the conventional annealing temperature may indicate that a review of.ouality ayurance procedurqs should be made to determine that compiete inspection of Incoloy-800H components for adequate grain size is provided.
