Centlemen:
The Nuclear Regulatory Co==ission is considering me thods for increasing the frequency of its contact with certain byproduct _ materials licensees.
In lieu of increasing the frequency of onsite inspectiens, the NRC is considering a program that would require certain licensee: to respond to a survey questionnaire that could be mailed to them on an established frequency, such as at two or three year intervals. The licensees con-sidered for inclusion in this progra= are those where the licensed activity has a low inherent hazards potential, consequently they are placed in a group of " low inspection priority" licenses.
In order to de termine if a questionnaire survey would be beneficial to both the NRC and the licensees, we are conducting a voluntary one-time tect of the questionnaire program. Your license is in the category of low insper. tion priority licenses and has been selected for inclusion in this voluntary progra=.
We request your cooperation in the progra and ask you to co=plete and return the enclosed survey questionnaire within 30 days.
No enforcement action will be taken as a result of answecs to this questionnaire.
Rather, its purpose is to se rve as a retinder of your responsibilities for adhering to the requitecents of NRC regulat':r= and the 'RC licinse unde r snich your ope rations are con du c t e d--t t.e cuest.:ns in tne enclosed survey are pertinent to some of the more important of those requireeents. Your operations under NRC license will continue be subject to NRC inspection, and enforcement action may be taken as a to result of the findings of a direct inspection by an NRC ir.s p e c t o r.
