0270/0498/15525/15526 Interim Report for Potential Reportable Deficiency No. 78/03 As Defined in 10CFR50.55 (e)
AECM-79/10 On June 23, 1978, Mr. V. L. Brownlee of your office was notified of a potential reportable deficiency at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station construc-tion site concerning weld separation on strut type hanger material. We have determined that the spot welds in all Unistrut material presently at the Grand Gulf jobsite, with the exception of one lot of material, are strong enough to meet required safety factors. All of the material in the unaccepta-ble lot, which is identified by a lot number stamped on the inside of the channel, has been isolated to prevent its use in the plant.
However, we are presently evaluating weld strengths of other manufac-turers' strut material to enable us to make a final determination of reporta-bility. We now estimate that our final report will be available by April 1, 1979.
