Department of Energy Oak Ridge Operations ATTN: Mr. Larry Blalock PO Box E Oak Ridge, TN 37830 Gentlemen:

This refers to your application dated January 5,1979, requesting an amendment to permit additional materials of construction and speciff-cations for the Model No. 48 OM packaging (UF-6).

In connection with our review, show that the packaging is adequately designed against nonductile failure (A285 steel) under the normal conditions of transport at low service temperature environments.

The present evaluation of the packaging for nonductile fracture failure is incomplete.

Please advise use within thirty (30) days from the date of this letter when this information will be provided.

If you have any questions regarding this matter, we will be pleased to meet with you and your staff.

Sincerely, b
