C. 20555. .N4 Dear Sira ~ SPENT FUEL ROD STORAGE In view of the alleged breakthrough by ASEA Inc. in Sweden regarding encapsulation of spent fuel. rods in a container of synthetic corundum and its claims concerning retrievability, is the present Safety & Environmental Imuact Review adeouate? Since this (to my knowledge) is not covered in the IRG report, do you consider it sufficient without further review? It is safe to say that neither PSE&G nor any other licensee has considered this alternative to expand-ing their spent fuel pools; therefore, I recommend that the ASL3 request immediately all available information_from ASEA Inc. to determine if, in fact, expansion at any nuclear generating facility is required at this time. I would be most grateful for the opportunity to review whatever might be available from ASEA Inc. on the above subject. Very truly yours, ec h p. Alfred C.
