Dear Dr. Bradley:

This is to confirm my discussion with your staff requesting that the work on General Electric Vallecitos Nuclear Center identified in my August 2,1978 letter be expanded to include the following:

In conjunction with the assessment of the Engineering Decision Analysis Corporation Preliminary Report No.

EDAC-175-060-01, " Structural Condition Documentation and Structural Capacity Evaluation of Building 102 of the General Electric Company Vallecitos Nuclear. Center, rovide an Task II - Structural Capacity Evaluation", p(Advanced estimate of the Building 102 basement area Fuels Laboratory) capability to withstand simultaneous forces from seismic shaking and faulting.

This analysis would be within the' scope of work defined in NRC Order No. 50-78-04 (DOE B&R 40-10-01-05).

Dr. Elton Endebrock is familiar with details of the work involved.

I have made available the services of Nathan M. Newmark Consulting Engineering Services to assist Dr. Endebrock in this work, as needed.

Should there be any questions, please contact me.

Sincerely, MM-(eM Winston Burkhardt Fuel Reprocessing and Recycle Branch 7.90105oOct7 Division of Fuel Cycle and Material Safety cc:
