SUMMARY
OF JANUARY 22, 1980 MEETING On January 22, 1980 we met with repmsentatives of Mississippi Power and Light Company and Bechtel Power Corporation at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station site. The purpose of the meeting was to familiarize our mechanical engineering FSAR reviewers from Battelle Pacific Northwest Laboratory with the station in order to facilitate their review. An attendance list is enclosed.
In the moming an extensive tour was made of the plant, including the containment, auxiliary building and turbine building. Major piping systems were traced, with particular attention being paid to the SRV discharge lines, main steam, feedwater and emergency core cooling systems.
In the afternoon we discussed the progress of Battelle's mechanical engineering review of Grand Gulf and their schedule to complete the review.
They stated that a draft SER should be completed in March,1980. Also discussed were the independent analysis which Battelle would be conducting on an SRV discharge line, and the materials they would need for that task.
Bechtel Power Corporation's representatives committed to providing the materials as soon as possible after we transmit our detailed requirements to them.
At the exit meeting the reviewers thanked the pplicant for the professional nature in which the tour was arranged. Tliey s;ated that the visit had greatly enhanced their understanding of the power plant and would facilitate its review.
They reconinended similar visits for other laboratory reviewers and the applicant stated his willingness to conduct them.
