EhCLOSURE RESPCNSE TO NRC IE BULLETIN 80-01 DATED JANUARY 11, 1930 BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT We wil'l' respond to each action it'em as listed by NRC in their bulletin.
1.
Determine if your facility has installed hard-seat check valves to isolate the ADS accumulator system from the pneu=atic supply system.
Response
The hard-seat check valves were changed out in mid-1976 to soft-seat, in-line valves on all three units at Browns Ferry.
2.
Determine if periodic leak tests have been perfor=ed on your ADS accunulator systems to assure emergency pneumatic supply for the FSAR--
required number and duration of valve operations.
Respense:
Tests are performed in accordance with a standard Browns Ferry procedure (MMI-42: ADS Relief Valve Air Supply System Testing Inspecticn and Maintenance) during refueling.
3.
Review seismic qualifications of the ADS pneumatic supply system:
(a) f rom accumulator system isolation check valve to ADS valve operator (b) from isolation valve outside containment up to ADS accumulator check valve Resconse:
(a)
The system is seismically qualified (b) The system is seismically qualified 4.
Based upon determination of items 1, 2, and 3, above, evaluate operability of the ADS for the conditions under which it is required to be operable including a seismic event.
If operability cannot be established, adhere to appropriate Technical Specification action statement.
Response
We believe that based upon the response to items 1, 2, and 3, that the operability of the ADS valve pneumatic supply is ensured even during a seismic event.h0}}
