Dear Mr. Ippolito:
By letter dated July 24, 1979, Boston Edison Company submitted its weld in-spection program for Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, which adopted the 1974 edition through the Summer of 1975 and specific subsections of the 1977 edition through the Summer of 1978 addenda of the ASME Section XI Codes. Sub-sequently, interim approval of the program was granted by the Commission with the understanding that Boston Edison would submit a revised program in the near future.
Although not included in our July 24, 1979 letter, please be advised that it is our intention to perform ultrasonic examinations during our current refueling outage in accordance with paragraph IWA-2232 of the 1977 Edition-Summer 1978 Addenda of ASME Section XI.
Since the adoption of this section of the code will be included in our revised program and will not decrease the level of quality or safety of our inservice inspection and testing pro-gram, we believe this would be the most practical method of presently meeting the ASME code requirements for ultrasonic examinations at Pilgrim Station.
