SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF JANUARY 3,1980 MEETING On January 3,1980 we met with representatives of Mississippi Power and Light Company, General Electric Company and Bechtel Power Corporation at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station site.

The purpose of the meeting was to familiarize several of our national laboratory FSAR reviewers with the physical layout of the power plant. An attendance list is enclosed.

In the morning we toured the power plant in four groups:

Instrumentation and Control, with reviewers from Savannah River Laboratory; Power Systems, with other reviewers from Savannah Laboratory; Auxiliary Systems, wits the reviewer from Argonne National Laboratory; and Structural Engineering, wit h the reviewers from Idaho National Engineering Laboratory. Two Power Systems reviewers from Oak Ridge National Laboratory who are involved with a different plant's appli-cation also attended the tour to familiarize themselves with a boiling water reactor. A representatives' from NRC headquarters accompanied each group.

In the afternoon the groups met separately to discuss questions raised during the tour.

In addition the reviewer 5and the applicant took the opportunity to exchange information clarifying recent formally posed questions and detailing the status of operating license review.

At the exit meeting the reviewers thanked the applicant for the professional nature in which the tour was arranged. Thay stated that the visit had greatly enhanced their understanding of the power plant and would facilitate its review.

They recommended similar visits for other laboratory reviewers and the appli-cant stated his willingness to conduct them.
