Dear Mr. Reid:
Paragraph 3.1.21(4) of the Fire Protection Safety Evaluation Report (SER) attached to License Amendment No.19, dated February 28, 1978, describes the following modification for fire area 34, the grade level electrical penetration area:
" install a fire stop to prevent a cable tray fire from bridging the gap between redundant channels."
Paragraph 3.1 of the SER requested that design details be submitted to the NRC for the approval of the modification proposed in Paragraph 3.1.21(4). The design details are listed below:

To prevent the cable tray fire from bridging the gap between redundant channels, the District will install cable tray fire stoos.
The fire stops will divide the room and orevent loss of redundant cables for a design basis fire.
The fire stops will be constructed as indicated on Sketch 1.
The materials used in the construction of the fire stops are the same materials used in the District's three hour wall penetration fire stop.
The three hour fire stop was qualified in the District's Fire Stop Test Report, Test Section III, which was submitted to the NRC on March 1,1978.
Table 3.1 of the SER requires that the fire stops be installed the end of the 1979 - 1980 refueling outage.
The completion of the 1979 -
1980 outage is scheduled for the first week of March. To complete the modification when required, the District is requesting NRC corTnents and/or 005 S
