Subject:
Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant Units Nos. I and 2 Docket Nos. 50-317 and 50-318 IE Bulletin No. 79-02, Revision 2 Concrete Expansion Anchor Bolts
Dear Mr. Crier:
In accordance with your letter dated November 8, 1979, subject as above, the following is subettted in response to your request for additional information and is in addition to our earlier response dated July 6, 1979.
Action Item 5 Determine the extent that expansion anchor bolts were used in con-crete block (masonry) walls to attaci. piping supports in Seismic Category 1 systems (or safety related systems as defined by Revision 1 of IE Bulletin No. 79-02).
Response
All Seismic Category I large piping systems for Units 1 and 2 have been inspected by field "walkdowns".
No such supports have been identified attached to concrete block walls in any of the Seismic Category 1 or safety related systems.
Action Item 6 Determine the extent that pipe supports with expansion anchor bolts used structural steel shapes instead of base plates.
Response
A limited number of pipe supports (36 - Unit 1, 16 - Unit 2) were found to have been installed using structural shapes attached directly to concrete with expansion anchors. These supports have been reviewed and repaired as necessary to be consistent with the criteria of IE Bulletin 79-02, Revision 1.
